Are You Taking Advantage of the Great Reset?

Working from home caused us to reflect on how our careers are blending with our personal lives and our values. You are suddenly seeing clearly—maybe for the first time—and asking if you’re truly connected to your purpose in life.

Some people believe that you die twice: once when you take your final breath, and then again the last time someone says your name. It’s a powerful way to measure your legacy and impact on others. What do you want your legacy to be?

It’s a question that many of you might be asking since the pandemic sent us all home. Working from home caused us to reflect on how our careers are blending with our personal lives and our values. You are suddenly seeing clearly—maybe for the first time—and asking if you’re truly connected to your purpose in life. In a lot of cases, the answer is “no.”

These “no” answers amount to what many call the Great Resignation, but I prefer to see it as the Great Reset. Reconnecting to what’s important to you and why you’re here is integral to living an uncompromising life. I’m not talking about work-life balance but rather work-life integration.

What I do is who I am and vice versa. I want to challenge you be the same person at work that you are in life. That means thinking and acting like a business with a mission. I’m the CEO of Steve White Inc. Everything I do rolls up to my personal values, and how I behave in my home and while conducting business is the same. I’d like to share why in my video below.

This week’s Pathway Countdown is number four:

THINK AND ACT LIKE A BUSINESS

If your persona while working is performative and doesn’t honor the real you or what you value, you’re sapping precious energy serving two people—the real you and the counterfeit you. Why not put all your energy behind your purpose and what you’re truly passionate about?

I recently participated in a lively podcast conversation with Career Warrior host Chris Villanueva. He said, “Steve, how can people identify their why?” I told him to ask this question: “What is something you’re good at and that you would you do for free?”

Your purpose is often just below the surface and has always been there, but it’s important to slow down to find it. Asking this question can help! Tune in with Chris to hear more insights from this energetic chat, and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear from you.

Live your why,

Steve

P.S. If you’re new to this countdown, you might be wondering what it’s all about. What pathways have come before? If you’d like a bird’s-eye view of my Pathway Countdown, then download a handy one-pager by clicking here.
